ACHING OLD BONES

September 29, 2015

By Olivene Godfrey

Barry and I are still enjoying drinking our Starbucks coffee at breakfast on our long weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).  We don't have enough time through the week to sit and enjoy our coffee since Barry is preparing our breakfast and packing his lunch for work.  So, Barry brews enough coffee for his thermos mug to carry to work with him and my insulated container to enjoy as I prepare myself for the day.  The weekends are special as we leisurely drink our coffee in china cups.

Tam wasn't able to come to the house this past Friday, she was sick.  We really missed her.  She does so much for me.  I can never thank her enough.  She came on Monday even though she wasn't feeling her usual energetic self.  She shampooed and set my hair with the curling iron while she was here.

The humid weather is causing my old bones to ache, especially my knees.  I haven't been able to find anything to bring relief.  I've had injections which had gave no relief from the almost unbearable pain.  I've taken two Aleve tablets today, which my doctor says is my limit.  I also have heated thermal pads resting on my knees.  I would scream if I thought it would stop my pain.

See you next time.  Comments welcome.  (As told to Tam.)

OUR FANCY DINING EXPERIENCE

September 22, 2015

By Olivene Godfrey

I had an appointment with my primary care doctor yesterday.  To sum it up, the doctor gave me a good report.  The lab report showed that everything is fine.  While the doctor was leaving the room, I said to Tam, "If the report is so good, why don't I feel like dancing around the room?  Tam laughed and answered, "It might be because you're 87 years old."  A young woman, taking notes, laughed, too.  Dang it!  Why can't I feel chipper anymore!

As Tam and I entered the doctor's office an elderly woman stepped up in front of me and said, you look exactly like my mother.  Then she asked if I knew her.  I replied I didn't.  She said she might have been adopted, and I might be her mother.  Then she walked away.  It takes all kinds of people.

Our mishappen pear tree is usually loaded with pears now, but a flock of crows which I think are wicked looking ate every single pear.  Barry and I had a busy past weekend.  We went to Walgreen's and had flu shot's.  While we were at Walgreen's I bought birthday cards for Tam and my sister, Jeanette.  They both have birthdays in October.  I also purchased a gift for Tam.

Barry has been playing music on his super stereo system while we eat supper at night in the dining room.  He says it's like we are dining in a fancy restaurant.

See you next time.  Comments welcome.  (As told to Tam.)

INTERNATIONAL SPY?

September 14, 2015

By Olivene Godfrey

I am writing this blog after eating breakfast and while drinking Starbucks coffee in my thermos mug, Monday morning while I wait for Tam to arrive.  I think she may be early today as a "juicer" was delivered yesterday for her.  Like myself, Tam doesn't eat many green vegetables, so she plans to juice veggies and fruit.  She says the juice is free from pulp and tastes delicious.  Barry wants me to be certain I would use it if I had a juicer.  If so, he said he would buy one for my birthday (December 10) or as a Christmas gift.

I've had a vivid imagination as far back in my life as I can remember.  My hallucinations when I was in the hospital were so weird I don't tell anyone about them.  Recently, I've been dreaming about international intrigue (spy).  In my dreams, I am a "spy" in a foreign country.  This is unusual as I don't read or see movies about international intrigue.  Some nights these dreams tell an exciting story about an old lady (me) spy.

We are having a "cold snap", a preview of autumn.  I am not looking forward to winter.  I plan to have a flu shot soon.  I pray I'll stay well the coming year.  I want to live until the upcoming presidential election.

See you next time.  Comments welcome.  (As told to Tam.)

KNOWLEDGE IS KEY

September 8, 2015

By Olivene Godfrey

I am a type 2 Diabetic and last week, Tam and I were home alone.  I also have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and was having a spell.  Then, later, my vision was blurring which scared Tam half to death.  I drank some low calorie Gatorade which helped with my vision.  Later, during the weekend, I was here alone while Barry went to the grocery store for a short time.  While I was sitting here, my eyes started blurring again.  I was scared to walk across the room to get my Gatorade out of my small refrigerator.  I happened to remember Barry and Tam keep small candy bars in a dish on my table.  I ate a bar and my vision cleared.  I told Barry about it when he returned.  He found information on the internet.  The article said that people who carefully manage the condition which I do by diet, can have this condition.  The article listed that the diabetic should be given 15 grams of quickly digesting carbohydrates.  I have copies of Barry's research which I'm giving to Tam so she will know how to assist me if this happens again.  I see my primary care doctor in a couple of weeks and will discuss this with her then.

Barry bought a new coffee maker that makes more than a couple of cups of coffee for us.  He filled a thermos bottle of Starbucks coffee for me before leaving for work.  I really enjoyed it.

On Labor day, we stayed at home and Barry grilled two Omaha filet mignon steaks for us.  He baked potatoes and we ate a feast fit for royalty.

See you next time.  Comments welcome.  (As told to Tam.)
