COFFEE OR TEA?

May 16, 2016

By Olivene Godfrey

As I write this on a Saturday, the weather is cool but sunny and nice.  Yesterday Tam and her son and his wife and their dogs left to go camping near Jack's River in the mountains.  The forecast was cold and I think they must have nearly frozen but Tam enjoys camping out and I'm sure she's having a good time.

Regular readers of this space, know how much I love Starbucks coffee.  Recently, I drank too much of it and I was quite sick.  Barry reminded me that about 10 years ago I had to stop drinking coffee.  I had an upset stomach and saw a stomach specialist.  He told me, after tests, I had to give up coffee which I did.  It wasn't easy but after awhile I didn't even think of drinking coffee.

The specialist prescribed a mild laxative which I took every day.  After awhile I started feeling normal and resumed drinking coffee.  Gradually, I started having stomach pain and have had to resume taking the mild laxative every day, and have given up coffee for good.

I started thinking, I mostly enjoyed the hot coffee as an early morning drink.  So, why not try hot tea?  We've enjoyed iced tea for years.  And Barry researched tea on the internet and it is the most popular drink in the world.

There are several kinds of tea.  Barry brewed a cup of tea for me to drink after breakfast.  He added sugar and it was delicious.  Barry said Ingles has several kinds of tea and he will buy some for me, including green tea.

My sister, Jeanette, has never drank coffee and has always drank tea.  I don't want to feel the way I did when I drank the coffee and felt so sick.  I still don't feel good but if I have a good nights sleep, I should be okay.

Sunday morning:  I tried the hot tea again after breakfast and it made me feel sick.  Barry and I decided I won't drink a hot beverage in the morning for awhile.  We think my stomach needs time to heal.  I drink a small glass of orange juice with my oatmeal every morning and that will have to serve as my morning drink for awhile.

It was cold this morning.  I'm ready for the cold weather to go away.

See you next time.  Comments welcome.  (Edited and typed by Tam.)
